Ryukyu Middle School hosts Winter Arts Festival showcasing student creativity
OKINAWA, Japan – Ryukyu Middle School celebrated a semester of artistic achievement with its Winter Arts Festival, held during seminar on Jan. 12, 2026. The event, made possible through the dedication of art teacher Ms. Lloyd, highlighted the creativity and hard work of students across all art classes.
Every student contributed two or more of their best pieces from the semester, accompanied by artist statements explaining their inspiration and creative process. The art show drew an enthusiastic audience, including parents, faculty, staff, RYMS administrators, and seminar classes who visited. Featured categories included 2D Art, 3D Art, Decorative Ceramic, and Functional Pottery, showcasing a wide range of student talent.
Guests enjoyed browsing the collection of artwork and participated in voting for favorites across six categories, as well as selecting the coveted “Best in Show.” Winners were announced the following day, adding excitement to the celebration.
“It was wonderful to see students excitedly showing their artwork to their friends and family—the perfect way to finish an excellent semester of art classes,” said Ms. Lloyd, reflecting on the success of the event.
Students expressed pride in sharing their work with friends and family, receiving feedback, and appreciating the talents of their peers. The Winter Arts Festival was a vibrant reminder of the power of creativity and community at Ryukyu Middle School.
